The 7th Directors Across Borders (DAB) Regional Co-Production Forum was held within the framework of the 10th GOLDEN APRICOT International Film Festival in Yerevan from 9 - 11 July, 2013 at Tekeyan Centre.
The DAB Co-Production Forum is an annual event aimed at promoting talents and film production/ co-production in the Eastern Partnership countries.
The selected projects were “Conveyor” by DmytroSukholytky-Sobchuk (Ukraine), “All Roads Lead To Rome” by Dumitru Marian (Moldova), “Blood Money” by KıvançSezer (Turkey), “Sunbeam” by Lali Kiknavelidze (Georgia), “Kai” by Oleg Sentsov (Ukraine), “Dede” by Mariam Khatchvani (Georgia), “The Second Journey” by Levon Minasian (Armenia/ France), “Territoria” by Nora Martirosyan (Armenia/ Italy), “As Long as Heaven Allows” by Tamara Stepanyan (Armenia), “A Song for Nola” by Hasmik Hovhannisyan (Armenia), “Imprisoned Souls” by Inna Sahakyan (Armenia), “A Day From Marie’s Life” by Victoria Aleksanyan (Armenia) and "The Legacy" by Marat Sargsyan (Armenia).
The team of trainers included film expert and producer from Serbia Miroslav Mogorovic, and the Head of Film Programming at the Doha Film Institute (DFI) in Qatar Ludmila Cvikova.
The Jurors of the workshop were producer and Programme Consultant for the Hong Kong International Film Festival Raymond Phathanavirangoon, Director of Sofia Meeting, Mira Staleva, Chief Executive Officer of Binger Filmlab Gamila Ylstra, the Head of Programming of Sarajevo International Film Festival Elma Tataragić, German producer Simon Amberger, Artistic Director of Tbilisi International Film Festival Nino Anjaparidze,President of Centre National du Cinema et de l’ImageAnimée (CNC) Eric Garandeau and Attachée Audiovisuel Régional Consulatgénéral de France à Istanbul Fanny Aubert Malaurie.
The opening ceremony of the Forum started with the welcome speeches of the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival General Director and the DAB project Director Harutyun Khachatryan, the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival Artistic Director and the DAB project Manager Susanna Harutyunyan, the Head of Operations Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia Jean-Christophe Gayrand and French Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud.
The moderator of the Forum was the DAB project International Adviser Jeffery Kalousdian.
The Forum began with an interesting presentation on “The Cultural Exception in Cinema and Audiovisual: the model of Centre National du Cinema et de l’Image Animée” made by the President of Centre National du Cinema et de l’Image Animée (CNC) Mr Eric Garandeau.
A panel discussion onthe obstacles and experiences in the co-production between the EU and the Eastern Partnership Countries took placewith the renowned representatives of the film industry Ludmila Cvikova, Miroslav Mogorovic, Gamila Ylstram, Simon Amberger, Nino Anjaparidze, Gevorg Gevorgyan, Susanna Harutyunyan, Gaga Chkheidze, Raymond Phathanavirangoon, Mira Staleva, Elma Tataradic.
During the second part of the day the famous producer Miroslav Mogorovich made a presentation about the “Creative Calculations”.Then Head of Film Programming at Doha Film Institute Ludmila Cvikova led the training session.
The Forum's second working day was dedicatied to the pitching and during the third and last day one-to-one meetings between the participants, the jurors and the renowned industry representatives took place.
In the evening atthe grant award ceremony film project “Dede” by Mariam Khatchvani and Vladimer Katcharavawaswas awarded the prize of 5,000 Euro for the Best Overall Project.
The prize of 3,500 Euro for addressing the common social problems of the region went to Kıvanç Sezer and SonerAlper for their project «Blood Money» and another prize of 3,500 Euro for developing a multi-media approach in addressing issues concerning youth in modern-day society was presented to a project «A Song For Nola» by Emil Mkrttchian, Hasmik Hovhannisyan and Arevik Avanesyan.
The DAB Regional Co-production Forum is part of the DAB project that is funded by the European Union through the Eastern Partnership Culture Programme and implemented by GOLDEN APRICOT Fund for Cinema Development in Armenia and its partners:INTERNEWS (Ukraine), Cinema Art Centre Prometheus (Georgia), and INTERNEWS (Armenia).
